Here’s the bus schedule that covers all of Broward County, in case you decide to go anywhere. You might be ok at the beach in Hollywood, Pompano Beach, and Deerfield Beach, all located in Broward County. Forget Boca Raton, self-survival at their beach is near impossible.

Public transit isn't the best. You can probably make due if you're really going to just be on the beach (and you're staying close) by, but if you've got any other plans it is likely going to be a hassle. Good luck and have fun!

Is it easy to vacation without a car in Florida?
We are flying to Fort Lauderdale in December, when car rental is over $100 per day. Could we get by without a car? If we mainly stay on the beach in Hollywood, Boca Raton or Pompano Beach, whichever is nicer.
